A "Build Your Own Game" (BYOG) is not a LARP. It is the attempt to write a new LARP, from scratch, in just over 24 hours. Friday night, you should attend the Intro to BYOG panel to get ready and learn, even if you've written a LARP or two. After the panel, you'll gather to brainstorm ideas, so bring ideas for game scenarios, plots, and characters. Once you all agree on an idea, you'll regroup on Saturday morning to start writing. You have the rest of the day and into the night to put a LARP together, which you will run for a group of eager players on Sunday.
This is open to creative people of all levels of LARP writing experience, from the first-timer to the old-hand. It's an intense experience, where you'll learn by doing. You'll never forget the experience, and it will give you an entirely new perspective on LARPs and LARPing. It's a lot of fun.
In order to help facilitate the process, we need you to tell us a little about you. Please fill out the following survey, to help us plan.
This BYOG effort is being facilitated by Jeff Diewald. This will be the seventh BYOG effort that Jeff has facilitated or participated in. NELCO has already produced The Barbecue and The Night Queen Princess Fluffykins Passed, which have run at Intercon and beyond. One of those experiences brought Collision Imminent! into existence - a game which has run twelve times, on two continents. Jeff has written or collaborated on more than a dozen LARPs over the last many years, including Dustpan: the LARP and Across the Sea of Stars. Jeff has been on the staff of the New England Intercons from the very beginning, starting as the con chair for Intercon the Thirteenth.
